Renowned British celebrity hairdresser, Trevor Sorbie MBE, is leading a charity dog walk in his local town in aid of his pioneering medical hair loss charity mynewhair.
Supporters of the charity and locals from across Hampshire are invited to join Walkies for mynewhair a onemile walk along Gosport’s Stokes Bay Beach promenade to support people suffering hair loss from cancer or alopecia.
On Sunday 29thSeptember, at 10am, Trevor will welcome everyone to Walkies for mynewhair and together with his wife Carole will take the lead with Lisbon the couple’s 19-month-old King Charles Cavalier.
Trevor said: “It was my wife Carole who came up with Walkies for mynewhair and I can’t thank her enough for organising the event. It promises to be a fantastic day, from taking in the beautiful beach views to enjoying an afternoon of live music, great food and much more. I just can’t wait to meet everyone, all of the pooches and take part myself with Lisbon, my beloved King Charles Cavalier.
“mynewhair isn’t just about hair, it’s psychological medicine for people suffering from hair loss through illness and for many people it’s the missing link in their treatment. The funds raised by Walkies for mynewhair will help the charity to help those affected by cancer or alopecia across the UK and internationally.”
Trevor lives in Gopsort and last year converted a room in his home where he offers a free wig-customisation service primarily to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in Hampshire and the surrounding areas.
Trevor added: “I’m world-famous, but mynewhair means more to me. God gave me a gift and I've used it pretty well up until now. This is perhaps the most important part of that gift and I’m using it to help people.
“My wife and I have tried to make the room homely – not like a salon but somewhere comfortable, reassuring. I want each client to feel in safe hands. I give my time for free and willingly. Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer and if I can touch a lot of hearts, especially in this day and age, by helping others, I think that is something very special.”
mynewhair was founded by Trevor Sorbie MBE in 2006, in memory of his sister-in-law, Jackie, who lost her hair while undergoing chemotherapy for bone cancer, and is the only national charity dedicated to providing information, advice and support to people experiencing medical hair loss.
The pioneering charity supports and trains a network of over 800 independent salons and 1,000 trained hair professionals across the UK and Ireland, all providing a wig-customisation service for their clients, as well as hair professionals in Dubai and Canada.
